Almost Retro - Intro
Almost Retro - unclau.de goes back in (gaming) history
I listen to a bunch of different gaming podcasts and quite a few of them are centered around retro gaming. There seems to be some consensus that retro means “at least 20 years old”. I have been wanting to create more gaming related content, but I do not want to be one of a million voices talking about current gaming trends and I do not want to compete with any of the retro-gamers I follow (and often support financially).
Hence the idea to look at games that are old, but not quite old enough to be a topic in my favorite retro-gaming podcasts, magazines etc. I settled on 15 years for now, but I might change this later.
I am still not 100% sure on the format/concept, but my current thinking is to pick 1 game per quarter that was released originally 15 years ago, write one article to introduce the game, a little bit of it’s history, the genre and whatever else I find interesting about it and then publish a series of streams and/or videos, in which I attempt to play through main storyline of the game.
Because my time is limited, I intend to pick games that are somewhere around 6-12 hours long according to HowLongToBeat. Any live streams would happen spontaneously on my twitch channel, but videos on my YouTube channel would be released somewhat regularly, the goal being 2-4 hours of video per week.
My first game for this series will be Magicka, released originally on 25 January 2011. I will start my research this week and hope to have the introductory article up by mid February, so stay tuned.
